No flash photography allowed
Tom Daley, Britain’s 18-year-old diving talent, won bronze in the men’s 10m platform diving finals tonight.
What I thought was hilarious, though, was that he got a re-dive because he was “distracted by flash photography.” Like, they actually announced that over the speakerphone before his re-dive. How embarrassing is that??
I’m not saying he didn’t deserve a re-dive (the rules allowed it), and ultimately the 16 points he picked up in the re-dive wouldn’t have changed the final standings, but I just think it’s pretty hilarious that you have to announce to the world that you were distracted by flashing cameras as you were jumping and doing acrobatics from 30 feet above water. Personally, I would have been more distracted by the possibility that I could crack my head open on the platform after jumping off of it.
Doesn’t anybody else feel the same way? Platform diving is always nerve-wrecking for me to watch for that reason.
I recall Nahm in Bangkok (your rec.) a great value. Delicious and memorable, but not life changing. But I doubt…
