I love Los Gatos
This past weekend I was very excited to discover Amour Patisserie, an upscale bakery right down the street from one of my other favorite bakeries, Fleur de Cocoa. I was actually kind of upset to find out that Amour has been open for 5 months without my knowing about it.
Owner/chef Tony Miller was super friendly, and I was surprised to find out that he a) was from Little Rock, Arkansas and b) had worked at one of my other favorite cakeshops – the venerable Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong.
It’s not surprising, then, that the chocolate hazelnut bar ($6.50) I had blew me away. If I had to start a Yelp list of food that should be banned because it contains crack cocaine, this would be at the top of the list. It was amazing. I am totally coming back here to try the other desserts.
I should also mention here my two other favorite places in Los Gatos:
- Sushi on the Run. It’s a simple sushi bar with 8 seats, and serves the best salmon nigiri that I have ever had. Before coming to Sushi on the Run I had no idea what salmon nigiri was supposed to taste like, and why people liked it so much. Now I know. Unagi, hamachi, and amaebi are also excellent.
- Southern Kitchen. This is my go-to place for brunch…I love the pancakes here, and also really enjoy the ambience. Prepare for a wait here especially on the weekends.
I recall Nahm in Bangkok (your rec.) a great value. Delicious and memorable, but not life changing. But I doubt…
