How envy works
I’m coming up on 10 years at the Fruit, and it’s the first year that I haven’t upgraded to the new flagship iPhone. Not only that, but it’s the first year I haven’t felt a burning desire to get the latest and greatest phone to keep up with the Joneses.
I surprised even myself with my self-control, and attribute my lack of new iPhone envy to not being in the office and seeing everybody and their mother carrying around the latest iPhone the second the keynote is over.
In contrast, I do confess having vaccine envy as I observed more and more people post about getting their vaccinations on social media. It’s ironic considering I started out the year thinking I’d wait for the kinks to be worked out before getting the shot. In addition, I was telling some friends a couple months ago that I was fine with not getting it right away because I didn’t want to wait an hour for it. Which was also ironic since I had just stood in line for an hour for ramen.
Therefore, I feel incredibly grateful to have gotten my first shot this past week, courtesy of my friend Julie since there were extras at her clinic. Of course I am thankful for her friendship, but also for all the scientists that worked to develop the vaccine.
Now that I’ve gotten my first shot, I guess there’s only a few more weeks to go before becoming fully vaccinated. As for the iPhone — I just hope that there’s a new iPhone out by the time we have to be back in the office, and that it’ll have been worth the wait.
I recall Nahm in Bangkok (your rec.) a great value. Delicious and memorable, but not life changing. But I doubt…
